Biography
Arlene Herson is the producer and host of the award-winning syndicated cable television program, The Arlene Herson Show, which has been on the air since 1978. The show, which features personal in-depth interviews with nationally known personalities, can be seen on Boca Raton Educational Television (BRET), and on Manhattan Cable TV in New York City. Guests who have appeared on The Arlene Herson Show include, Tony Bennett, Sammy Davis, Jr., Vic Damone, Danny DeVito, Phyllis Diller, Suzanne Somers, Neil Sedaka, Harry Belafonte, Red Buttons, Walter Cronkite, Placido Domingo, Linda Evans, Don King, Gloria Steinem and Johnny Mathis. The Arlene Herson Show has won awards for the best talk show on cable television in New York and New Jersey and was nominated for a CableAce Award for the best talk show nationwide. (The CableAce Awards are the Academy Awards of Cable Television). Arlene can be heard on Florida Forum, National Public Radio, WXEL, 90.7 FM, Sundays from 11:00 am to 12 Noon and Mondays from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm, interviewing celebrities such as Paul Anka, Robert Goulet, Debbie Reynolds, Don Rickles, Marvin Hamlisch, Bess Myerson, Barbara Eden, Patti Page, Shirley Jones and Julio Iglesias.
Arlene has been an interviewer for Steven Spielberg's Shoah Foundation, videotaping first-hand testimonies of Holocaust survivors, and a contributing writer for The Hill newspaper, covering Capitol Hill, in Washington, D.C. and Dan's Papers in East Hampton, Long Island. Arlene has been a news anchor with Jim Hartz at the Republican National Convention in Houston for the Nostalgia television Channel.
In 2004 Arlene was appointed by President George W. Bush to the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Council, and reappointed by Governor Jeb Bush to the Florida Film and Entertainment Advisory Council. Arlene was also appointed by former President George H. W. Bush to the Take Pride in America Advisory Board. Arlene is one of the few non-Lawyers serving on the Florida Bar Grievance Committee. In 2008 Arlene Herson was honored with the Leadership Award from the Wings of Memory Society of the U. S. Holocaust Memorial Museum.
Arlene is also a guest lecturer with a program featuring inspirational and interesting behind the scenes stories about celebrities. She also selects the talent and serves as a master of ceremonies for the Cavalcade of Stars entertainment series at The Polo Club. Arlene is a member of the board of directors of BRET, the Miami City Ballet, the Boca Raton Roundtable , the Palm Beach International Film Festival, and the Will Rogers Institute. Arlene is married to Milton Herson. They have two children, Michael Herson (American Defense International, Inc.), married to Vicki Siegel Herson, and Karen Herson Vaughn (Concepts, Inc. Marketing & Communications), married to Brian Vaughn and three grandchildren, Molly and Kyle Herson and Sarah Vaughn. Arlene was among the first women to be admitted to The Friars Club, a lengendary show business club. She is also a member of The Lotos Club, a literary club in New York City and the National Press Club in Washington, DC. In Washington, D.C., Arlene produced the opera, The Magic Flute, narrated by Victor Borge, and the award-winning musical, 1776, featuring members of Congress. Both productions were performed at the historic Constitution Hall 4,000 seat theatre for the Washington Symphony Orchestra.
Arlene has also been a spokesperson for NutriSystem in New Jersey appearing on billboards and full page newspaper advertisements.
